Time & Location

Feb 14, 2022, 10:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Standard Live, 1112 N High St, Columbus, OH 43201, USA

About the Event

The Make-A-Day Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides outreach to Columbus’ homeless population and any of our neighbors in need. Our block party styled, pop-up outreach events focus on providing opportunities for homeless guests to build personal relationships with other community members.

We provide guests with free clothing, personal care items, and a complementary meal from a gourmet local food truck. Make-A-Day also offers our guests free haircuts, shampoos, styling, and shaves from some of the city’s best local cosmetologists. Make-A-Day Foundation’s guests will also have access to help obtaining “on-the-spot” presumptive Medicaid health insurance coverage, as well as medical, behavioral health, dental, and vision service referrals.

Volunteer Roles:

Hosts

Our volunteers are a vital part of making this day happen! If you are organized, a people-person, and a problem solver, then the host position is the job for you! The host helps to check-in our guests and retrieve them for haircuts, consultation with benefits experts, vaccinations, dental and legal clinic openings! This position is like the Quarterback in Football!

Servers

We need volunteers willing to help serve guests their meal, and work with the hosts to notify each guest when their resources are available (haircut, medical, legal, etc). The goal is to give our guests a restaurant-like experience, but with a more personalized touch. We want our guests to feel seen, so be sure to try to remember names and faces!

Friendship Builders

We also need people that are willing to sit and chat with people and build relationships, and be good listeners to learn about people’s stories and needs. In doing so, we hope that folks can gently, and without being intrusive, inquire about their needs related to healthcare, health insurance, criminal justice support, and any other social services they may need.

General Volunteers

Greeters/Registration Table: Greet guests and check-in volunteers. Give volunteers their task sheets.

Personal Care Item Table Workers: Organize personal care take-away bags, and manage their distribution.

Health & Human Services Experts

Our partners from Human Services agencies will have their own designated tables where they can talk with guests and provide resources. Human Services expert volunteers are encouraged* to roam around and introduce themselves and offer information and assistance to seated guests!

*This roaming isn't necessarily expected of our pop-up dental clinic volunteers or our legal clinic volunteers.
