About the Event

Join us for a celebration of our girls' achievements!

Anyone who has been to a Girls on the Run 5K knows that it is unlike any other 5K event. It is a celebration of and for the girls who are completing the Girls on the Run program season. Girls on the Run is a fantastic program for girls in our community that focuses on healthy behaviors and instilling lifelong confidence. Positive energy abounds as the girls dance to warm-up music, get their hair “happied” and "tattoos" on their faces, before gathering with their teammates at the starting line. Our 5K is a non-competitive event that will bring a smile to your face! Help us support our girls- you will be so glad you joined us!

**Current Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole program participants and coaches DO NOT need to register for the 5K; their program registration and their volunteer service includes their entry into the 5K.

8:00 AM Pre-5K Activities Begin

GIRLS ON THE RUN OF CENTRAL OHIO 5K INCLEMENT WEATHER GUIDELINE Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event, with special attention placed on the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds and extreme temperatures. If necessary, participants will be made aware of these conditions and possible dangers on Facebook, Instagram, via public announcements and potentially other means of communication, such as e-mail.

The Council Director and 5K Director, in consultation with law enforcement, fire/EMS and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the 5K. Possible changes include: Altering the start time, temporarily postponing the event, or in extreme situations, cancellation of the event. Visible lightning will cause the 5K to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the 5K in 30-minute increments.

In the case of extremely high heat and humidity, extra water will be provided to the athletes at two points during the 5K and after the event. The medical team will be alerted that athletes may require additional medical attention during and after the event due to these conditions.

5K personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the 5K due to inclement weather.

If it is felt that it is unsafe for participants to start the 5K due to severe temperatures and humidity, the 5K may be cancelled.

In the case of a postponement or cancellation, all participants must abandon the 5K if ordered to do so. Participants and volunteers are urged to take cover in the nearest parking garage or structure. Coaches and volunteers will wait with girls in a safe area until the weather clears. Then, when safe conditions have been reported, all participants will return to Columbus Commons via the quickest and safest route possible.
