What started as a small group of women meeting in coffee shops to connect has turned into a growing network of girls and women empowering each other to become leaders in their schools, workplaces, and families. In 2010, Femergy® founders Maylin Sambois and Christina Vera met at a leadership development program. Their connection soon turned into a set of informal gatherings with other women looking for a safe space and support system. One thought these women shared was that they wished they had more support and knowledge of the world when they were girls. Maylin and Christina began mentoring a few young girls in their lives, and soon Girls Heart Reading Ohio (GHRO) was created to expand these resources to girls in the community. In 2014, Femergy® officially formed, and with support from the community, has been able to create programs tailored for girls, women, and families.

Femergy®’s impact doesn’t end with its participants—as these girls and women put their new skills in action, they change the lives of their families, their communities, and society as a whole. Femergy® creates agents of change, girls and women who are crafting a better world for future generations. Carmen Torres Colston, a cycle two graduate of the Enrichment Institute for Women (EIW), stated, “Before EIW, I was primarily focused on my own endeavors. The program taught me the importance of expanding my personal and business relationships, and introduced me to a wonderful new family!”
