Lil D-“I never wanted to do radio.” This is what lilD tells people when asked how she started in broadcasting. She began her career as a co-host on the night show in Shreveport, LA, at KMJJ in 2005.
For the next few years she would go on to work for Toledo’s WJZE Hot 97-3, Cleveland’s WENZ 107.9, and Columbus, Ohio’s WCKX Power 107.5/106.3 in 2015 where she became the top-rated night personality her entire three-year duration. In 2018, lilD took her hustle, heart, and humanity to Dallas where she was eventually recruited by the leading hip-hop station, K104. Porter hosts events, volunteers at various community centers, and is a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Since 2014 she’s been running her own organization, You Go G.I.R.L. (Grinding In Real Life), where the mission is to help good girls become great women.
She released her first book, Route 2: My Choice to Struggle to Succeed, covering the three-month period that she was homeless while doing radio in Ohio. With her down-to-earth personality, and “keep-it-real” attitude, lilD naturally attracts the target audience. And wherever she chooses to go, success will follow.
This year it’s OK to be you conference is brought to you by our partners at The ADAMH Board, Huntington, Discover and The Commission On Black Girls,
