This 12-session program will introduce students to the exciting world of Health Sciences. In collaboration with the Ohio State University, faculty, staff, students, and community partners, participants will engage in theoretical study of human anatomy and associated topics, alongside interactive skill sessions to help them develop key competencies for their future studies, such as presentation and interpersonal skills. The objectives of Cycle 8: Intro to Health Sciences are to provide students with an early insight into life as a medical professional, and to give them a head start in the knowledge required to get there (for girls in grades 6th-12th).
By the end of this cycle, students will have learned the following:
"We educate women because it is smart. We educate women because it changes the world."
~ Drew Fuast ~
In efforts to prevent suicide, reduce stigma and discrimination related to mental illness, and to promote the mental health and wellness of students’ participants will be required to create a 60 second public service announcement in one of two categories, Suicide Prevention or Ending the Silence on Mental Illness. Students are responsible for researching and will be paired with a grad or undergrad student mentor for guidance and support.
